Police pride: Annual inspection recognizes Watsonville officers devotion to duty

Pressed and polished and surrounded by family and friends, Watsonville police officers stood for inspection Wednesday morning.

The department also recognized many of its members and a few civilians for duty "above and beyond" during a ceremony that's been a tradition for more than two decades.

"Watsonville residents can take pride in the department and in those they have chosen to protect them," said Marina Police Chief Eddie Rodriguez, addressing the crowd that filled the sanctuary at Green Valley Christian Center after the inspection.

City Decides to Add Fluoride to Water

Late Tuesday night City Council members decided by a vote of 4-3 to fluoridate the city's water.

Fall Heat Wave Continues for Central Coast

Consider it our late summer sizzle on the Central Coast. It was a weekend full of heat. Expect temperatures to climb even higher today. The morning is mostly clear and cool. Sunrise will bring warming temps to the area. Inland areas will top out in the upper 90's to 100's. Coastal spots will top out in the mid 80's.

This prolonged heat wave is going to linger for the inland areas for at least a few more days. A few weak weather systems will move in and bring back clouds and cooler air by the end of the work week.

Relief from the heat will arrive by Friday and last into the weekend. It will still be seasonally warm, but not as hot as the triple digit heat we've been experiencing.
