State Of The Union Address, Fact Check

WASHINGTON, D.C.-  The world is digesting an assertive State of the Union address by President Barack Obama on Tuesday night.  He focused on bringing troops home, reducing the nation's deficit and changing gun laws in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting.

President Obama called on Congress to come together to find a solution, emphasizing his recovery programs won't add to the deficit.  He also said it's not bigger government we need, just a smarter one.  He said he'll bring nearly half of U.S.

Watsonville PAL Fundraiser March 9th

Watsonville PAL has a fundraiser on March 9th. 

The Santa Cruz Warriors game at 7pm that day will be Watsonville PAL night, the Warriors will honor some PAL students and put them on the Jumbotron screen, the kids will get a meet and greet autograph session with the players of the game, shoot some free throws with the players, and they will recieve SC Warriors gift packs.

Tickets to the game that night are only $20 and 100% of the proceeds go back to Watsonville PAL.

 

Military Officers Association (MOAA) meeting

The monthly meeting of Military Officers Association (MOAA) will be held Thursday, February 21 at Rancho Canada Golf Course. The speaker will be Edwin “Kip” Hawley, former head of the Transportation Services Administration and co-author of the best-selling book “Permanent Emergency: Inside the TSA and the Fight for the Future of America”. Mr. Hawley will speak on the TSA and some of his recommendations to change TSA procedures to combat terrorism. Social begins at 11:00, Lunch at 12:00. Active duty and retired military officers, their spouses and widows are welcome. Lunch cost is $20.00. For reservations, please call 649-6227.

Reports of Shots Fired End with a Flat Tire in Watsonville

WATSONVILLE, Calif. -- A fight in Watsonville ended with someone getting a flat tire. According to police, there were reports of shots fired near the 200 block of Rodriguez Street.

When they arrived on scene, there were no signs of any victims. However, police did find a bullet hole in a nearby car tire. 

Later in the investigation, police determined there may have been a fight between two groups of people. Police say one suspect was seen firing a handgun at the other group.

The investigation is ongoing.

Shots Fired on Rodriguez Street

On 02/06/13 at approximately 1346 hrs, officers were dispatched to the area of the 200 block of Rodriguez St regarding shots being fired in the area. When officers arrived they were not able to locate any victims that may have been shot. However they did locate a beige colored Suburban type vehicle with a flat tire. After inspecting the vehicle it was determined that the tire had a bullet hole in the tire causing the tire to flatten.

After canvassing the area for evidence and witnesses, it appeared that an altercation between two sets of groups ensued. One suspect with a gun was seen firing a handgun at the other group. He was described as Hispanic Male in his 20's, wearing a white tee-shirt and shorts. The gun was described as a black colored semi-automatic hand gun. Another subject involved was described as a Hispanic Male 18-20 years old wearing a tan shirt and shorts.

Police search for drivers who hit pedestrian

The search continues this morning for several drivers, accused of hitting a pedestrian then driving away just before rush hour monday morning!!

Police say a man standing on highway 129 in watsonville was hit-and-killed by oncoming traffic ...

One of the drivers who hit the victim stopped and called police.
