Watsonville—Our community raised 2.7 million pounds of food and cash equivalent for the 2011 Second Harvest Holiday Food Drive, all of which will be distributed to hungry people in Santa Cruz County through our network of 200 local agencies and programs and their 3,000 volunteers.
In recognition of this achievement, Second Harvest’s Annual Awards Dinner will honor some of the people who made noteworthy contributions in 2011—whether in pounds raised, in creativity, or in providing inspiration to others. “This is an opportunity to bring the community together to say look what you did,” explained Willy Elliott-McCrea, Chief Executive Officer of Second Harvest. “We’re always blown away by all the people who participate in the Holiday Food Drive and all the different ways they contribute. We want to share that feeling with everyone on this special evening.”
Second Harvest will also be honoring the 2012 Hunger Fighters of the Year, Michelle Boisen, Soquel Creek Water District and Bob Montague of Pajaro Valley Loaves and Fishes.
The evening will include a cocktail hour from 5:00 – 6:00 pm, followed by dinner and the awards presentation. A delicious menu (with vegetarian options) prepared by Conscious Creations will be served.
