SAN BENITO COUNTY, Calif - San Benito County Sheriff's Deputies are looking for an at-risk man that went missing from his home near Aromas Monday night.
According to deputies, around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday San Benito County Sheriff's Office received a call from a woman who wanted to report her 24 year-old son missing from Aromas. The woman claimed around 9:00 p.m. on Monday night while having a conversation with her son Nelson Hardy; he became unusually agitated about leaving the house with her. Nelson then suddenly ran out of the house and down a steep driveway leaving his car behind. The mother said he was only wearing blue jeans and boots at the time.
Hardy and her husband went looking for Nelson that night on their 25-acre property and were unable to locate him. They also tried calling Nelson's cellphone several times but were unable to get through to him.
Hardy told the Sheriff's Office that this behavior is not like Nelson and that he would have at least called and told his family where he was. Nelson is not on any medication and is not suicidal according to the family.
On Thursday, San Benito County Sheriff's Deputies along with several Search and Rescue volunteers searched the property and were unsuccessful in locating Nelson or any of his personal property. Several neighborhoods, barns, outhouses, pump houses, and adjoining properties to the home on the 300 block of Carr Avenue were searched but deputies found nothing.
The Sheriff's Office also tired to locate Nelson by tracking his cell phone, but Nelson's cell carrier advised the Sheriff's Office that they were unable to track down Nelson's phone due to their being no signal because either the cellular phone was turned off or the battery was dead.
If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of Nelson Hardy please contact the San Benito County Sheriff's Office at 831-636-4080 or their TIP-LINE at 831-636-4084.
